Masking Through Life

By Scott Anderson and Thorntree Mill - Rowan Alba

Scott, our resident artist, was homeless for 17 years. Throughout that time he managed to continue making his art. Even sometimes going without food so that he could afford pencils and paper. “Art was always an escape.” Scott is now living in a stable supported accommodation with his own long-term tenancy. Rowan Alba Thorntreemill has made a big difference to Scott’s life. He also now attends a regular art class every Friday and has made great friends in the community.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art” - Andy Warhol.

This piece is composed from all the ideas from Scott’s fellow residents at Thorntree Mill who all suffer from addiction and mental health issues.

We all hide our emotions whether its through bad mental health or societal pressure. I dream of a society where everyone can be their true self.
