“Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes (Knees and Toes)” (2023)

By Jamie O’Donnell (He/Him)

“Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes (Knees and Toes)” is about capturing your inner child and not taking your art practice too seriously. Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2021, I’ve decided to just make work that makes me happy. This represents how I’m feeling in life now – I feel like I’m doing really well. Just goes to show that life does get better.

I’m an interdisciplinary artist from Tayport in Fife, currently based in the Greater Glasgow Area. My practice explores the topics of mental health, growing up and the trans experience. My work also delves into the concepts of alignment, the inner voice, and the inner child. I use lots of different mediums to visualise these concepts: from performance and film to illustration and animation. With my work, I want to show and educate cisgender people about the trans experience and how it is not changing who you are, it's about aligning yourself to what is authentic to you.
