Isla (2022)

by Abbie Gladwin

My parents got me my cat Isla, back in 2018 to help me with my autism and mental health. Isla is my best friend and I have a strong connection with her. She brings me a lot of comfort and companionship. She makes me laugh and smile when she does silly or cute things. She is also an inspiration for me creatively and sometimes even wants to help me with my art!  I really wanted to create a piece of art of Isla for this exhibition as she helps me a lot with my mental health and helps to reduce any anxieties I have.

Also, some people don’t believe that cats show affection or care about their owners but many cat owners would tell you otherwise.  I really do believe that animals can really help you with your mental health. I have always been interested in animals and nature growing up. Most of the time I prefer the company of animals as I feel like I am understood by them more than people.
